Moldavite, A Creation Of Ancient Explosions.

Approximately 15 million years ago a giant meteorite (several cubic kilometers long) hurtled toward Europe, causing a tremendous explosion comparable to that of a multiple hydrogen bomb. The atmosphere was torn apart causing bits of melting earth and meteorite to fuse together. This melted mixture was thrown in random directions causing the creation of what we know today as Tektites, a natural glass that forms when terrestrial debris are ejected during extraterrestrial impacts. This amazing event caused the creation of Moldavite, a variety of Tektite much loved for it’s fabulous history.

Moldavite has recently exploded on the gemstone market, becoming hugely sought after as a specimen as well as a cut gemstone. This is probably due to its immense popularity among the metaphysical community, who view Moldavite as one of the most powerful gemstones out there. Stones are said to do everything from open all your chakras to protect you from dark spirits and even enhance psychic abilities. It is often used along with other gemstones for energy healing as it is said to amplify their powers. Meditating with Moldavite has been said to produce powerful visionary states and out of body experiences.

Due to its fast growing popularity, many fakes have been seen on the market so buyer beware! Things to look out for when buying Moldavite:

1.  Because of the explosive nature of it’s creation, Moldavite will usually display small bubble inclusions. If it’s completely clear and inexpensive, you’re probably getting a fake.

2. Moldavite is exclusively found in Czechoslovakia. It's definitely worth asking the seller where it's from.

3.  Moldavite has a very distinctive bottle-to-olive green colour. Familiarising yourself with the colour of Moldavite before you buy is a great idea. I have seen some really weird bright blue coloured stones being passed off as natural Moldavite.
